The new company hired to provide health care at the Albany County jail has fired five nurses involved in efforts to unionize the staff.
Ken Fields, spokesman for St. Louis-based Correctional Medical Services, said the company took the action after receiving a determination from the National Labor Relations Board that the employees improperly picketed
outside the jail without giving the required 10 days advance notice.
``This was an illegal activity in violation of a law that is more than 30 years old,'' Fields said.
