MURDERER GETS LIFE SENTENCE.(Local)

Richard LaMountain, 30, of Poestenkill, was sentenced Thursday to 25 years to life imprisonment after being found guilty last month of killing a Port Tavern bartender.

The sentence, handed down by County Court Judge John G. Turner Jr., was the maximum LaMountain could receive on the second-degree murder conviction.

Assistant District Attorney Christopher Rutnik had asked for the maximum sentence, citing LaMountain's past history of serious crimes.

LaMountain was convicted by an Albany County Court jury Aug. 7 in the beating death of bartender Carl Shumway. The jury deliberated for about two hours after a 4-week trial.
